Good morning! It'south the first of a new week and the starting time of a new calendar month. A month that includes an especially tender holiday for me.

Mother's Twenty-four hour period.

What makes this day so special?

Well as well sleeping in...

I normally get breakfast in bed.

Bootleg cards (my favorite!) and...

Children that try extra hard to exist actress awesome! Condign a mother has been one of my  greatest joys.

And I was trained by the very best...

Meet my mother, Andrea who is the inspiration behind this side by side furniture project.

Some people call her Andrea just her friends call her, Andi.

There are three things that I'd like share about my mom. The get-go is boy is she FUN! This lady is like shooting fish in a barrel going, has the best sense of sense of humour, and is usually the kickoff person to laugh at her ain mistakes.

2nd, this gal has some amazing legs! She'due south alpine and thin and although I didn't inherit her height and somehow got near of the undesired family anomalies, I was blest with her leg genes. ;)

For that I volition exist eternally grateful..Thanks, Mom!

And last, I recently had the absolute pleasance of helping my mother perform a total gut job on her 1970's home complete with blueish carpet, toll painted borders and xanthous formica kitchen countertops.

It was a long year filled with renovations only it was sure was fun to help her choice out her cabinets, flooring, tile and paint colors while spending HER money! ;)

With my mom in mind, I decided to fix up this discarded dresser I found at a austerity store. Information technology had 9 drawers and some amazing swirly details.

Here's what I'm calling "The Andi Dresser"....

Disclaimer: While Cece Caldwells sent me paint to complete this labor of love, I supplied the elbow grease, rescued furniture, pattern concept and opinions inside this post! With my mother's summit as the inspiration for this furniture makeover, I decided I wanted to add legs to this slice.

I was in decision fashion as to what kind of article of furniture legs to attach to this dresser when I passed by an aisle at our local Home Depot and happened to glance over at some debate post tops! Debate mail tops?!

Could I use those as furniture legs?

Yes, debate post tops! At $5.99 a top, I institute myself a deal!

Here's what they looked similar: (Only picture them as unfinished wood and unpainted.) If you turned this post effectually 180 degrees so that the screw points down, yous visualize that'southward the part that would screw into the meridian of a regular fence post.

But, flip it effectually and viola!... it becomes afurniture leg.

If you're interested in doing something similar you can notice these at your local big box hardware stores where they take argue supplies. They were economical AND mine came with the screws pre-drilled. Bonus!

Take a await at the upper corner of this next motion picture. When we flipped the dresser onto its back and so the underneath was exposed we discovered that there wasn't a construction to securely attach our new legs to. All four corners were like that.

Information technology was hollow with some trim pieces.

Your furniture piece may be configured differently only if you make up one's mind to add legs to a article of furniture piece (and y'all SHOULD), I'll testify you how we fixed our problem when nosotros didn't have existing supports to piece of work with.

To create supports for the legs to adhere to, we cut and added 4" 10 iv" blocks of wood and secured them into place through the outside of the dresser by insetting the screws. Nosotros chose 4" blocks considering that measurement fabricated the cake flush with the bottom of our dresser. Your measurements might be unlike.

Do you see how we inset the screw holes on the side when we attached the forest blocks? (Encounter below motion picture) If yous inset the screws, then y'all are able to hibernate the holes later with some easy peasy wood filler.

Nosotros used these drill $.25 correct hither to create the insets.

Once the wood blocks were set in place, we flipped the dresser onto its top for the ease of workability. We measured where the fence post would sit on the woods block and where the holes for the screws should be drilled.

One time the holes were drilled, we applied Gorilla Wood Glue to the wood block and screwed in the fence post top carefully matching up the edges so that they were flush with the sides.

It was piece of cake!

On a side note... Y'all don't have to paint your legs first. I merely opted to considering I thought it would be easier in the long run and I'm all about doing things easy! Every bit y'all read, you'll discover that I had a pigment color change and pre-painting these legs was pointless!

Totally upwardly to you, but I remember pre-painting the legs is the way to get! You can always practice touch ups later but information technology's so much easier to paint them when you don't accept to crouch nether the furniture. ;)

Simply, pigment them Later yous've completed this adjacent step. There's no sense in covering up your lovely paint task with woods filler.

Later on the legs were secure and the glue had dried, we applied Forest Filler to our seams and the outside screw holes.

Once the wood filler set, we gave information technology a really skillful sanding so the finish was nice and shine and we were ready to paint!

...To white!

With just a few debate post tops and some paint, the AndiDresser was transformed into something beautiful, elegant and stately! She has lovely meridian, new legs and amazing details that pop!

You can notice shades of white furniture paint hither , hither and here.
